While the climate crisis is ultimately a global issue, it does not affect all of us equally: socioeconomic status, geography, gender and more contribute to the impact of climate effects on individuals and communities. All too often, those suffering the brunt of the damage are those whose contributions to the crisis have been minimal and whose work toward finding solutions has been the most earnest. It’s our collective responsibility to heed the voices of those who are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change and work proactively with them to reverse the harmful trends we’re seeing.
Episode 5 of the ongoing #Youth4ClimateLive Series, “Driving Empowerment: Protecting the Most Vulnerable,” will home in on precisely this topic, and will feature the direct input of youth leaders with first-hand perspectives on the intersections of climate change with gender and food security and the role of education in leveling the playing field where it counts. Registrations for the October 23 session are open now: don’t miss out!
Our recurring moderators Salina Abraha and Ahmed Badr will be joined by none other than UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed for this episode. Ms. Mohammed will set the stage for the dynamic discussion at the top of the session and will engage with the youth speakers—Sophia Kianni, Louise Mabulo, and Fatou Jeng—throughout. She will also be joining us for a special Q&A at the end, so be sure to stick around! Beyond the Q&A, there will be ample opportunities for you to participate in Episode 5 via polls and more. See you on October 23 at 8:30 AM EDT!
